Moon Mania! Cashing in on the solar Eclipse

3 Minutes of Moon Mania! Cashing in on the Solar Eclipse 2017!

With the solar eclipse less than a week away, many marketers are trying to cash in on the “once in a lifetime” event. There are millions of tourists are expected to flood the eclipse area from Oregon to South Carolina. Retailers like Amazon and Wal-Mart are expecting big numbers on special eclipse glasses.

Upwards of 350,000 people are expected travel to Wyoming just to witness the eclipse, a huge thing for a state with about 585,000 residents. This is creating money making opportunities for entrepreneurs and many locals are eyeballing the potential profits. Even the likes of NASA have jumped in with downloadable party flyers and party invitations. Campsites in the totality area selling out in as little as 2 hours. And because of demand, rooms on Airbnb are running as high as $2,500 a night.

For 3 minutes the moon will block out the sun and savvy marketers are rushing to cover those minutes with every type of promotion you can think of. Here are a few of our favorites…

Krispy Kreme Donuts is covering their signature glazed donut with chocolate glaze.

Casper Mattresses is offering tents in Wyoming, with a Casper mattress for $500 a night.

American Paper Optics is churning out 500,000 pairs of Eclipse glasses for a total of 37 million pairs for the event. (They are hoping to print 50 million)

Anvil Hotel in Wyoming will be hosting a Moon Flow Yoga event with Moon Dust Lattes.

The USPS has introduced the worlds first “thermodynamic” postage stamp. A body heat activated stamp that reveals a picture of the moon.

The Oregon Store has a specialty t-shirt that’s designed with a glow-in-the-dark moon that will be activated when the eclipse happens.

All together there will be thousands of items available, everything from t-shirts, keychains and wines. With the average couple spending thousands of dollars for this experience, how will you be spending your 3 minutes?
