The Hottest Design Trends to look for in 2018
Gradients, Duo-tones and colors that POP!:
A gradient, sometimes called a color transition or a color ramp, and duo-tones are making the rounds for 2018. Gradients are a visual technique of one color transitioning from one hue (shade) to another hue or shade. Duo-tones are created through a process where one halftone is printed on top of another contrasting color, creating a two-toned image. These contrasting colors give the image the ability to stand out while keeping the palette limited. Color schemes from the 80’s and early 90’s have also been gaining steam with designers. We can expect to see a move from flat and minimal design towards the abstract patterns inspired by the huge nostalgia buzz hitting just about every industry. As children of the 80’s and 90’s become more nostalgic, both brands and designers will look to add some nostalgic feels to their lines. Look for vivid pinks and purples!
Bold and fun lettering:
And when it comes to typography in 2018 you’ll find that big and bold equal better. Designers will be customizing hand-made fonts, using extra-large font sizes and creating huge bold logos. Helvetica style sans serifs have been highly popular and will remain as popular as ever. Along with this use of bold lettering, designers will include a creative use of layouts, placements and bolder variations in type alignment and spacing.
Custom art and illustration:
Custom art and illustration helps create visuals that can really add personality to your brand, and with brands vying for consumer attention spans, custom art will continue to rise in 2018. Whether it’s a practical, or purely artistic decision, the demand for custom art and illustration will continue to grow. With the ability of finding custom art from the multitude of freelance illustrators and the prices of said work dropping because of the stiff competition, it’s becoming more cost effective to get your hands on something original. When it comes to screen printing however, custom graphic art and illustration have usually taken a backseat to cheaper clip and ready made vector artwork.
